Reactivates Camar Area in the Bawean Working Area

22 Maret 2024

Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) in collaboration with Production Sharing Contract (PSC) PT. Prima Energi Bawean (PEB) has successfully completed a series of activities to reactivate the Camar area in the Bawean working area. This area is located in the north of East Java Sea, approximately 90 km from Surabaya, which has been dormant for 3 years.

As the 100% operator of the Camar area in the Bawean working area, PEB, which obtained the PSC Cost Recovery contract through the Direct Offer Tender Migas effective since 15th December, 2022, has committed to being in production within 1 year. PEB has successfully fulfilled this commitment by completing the reactivation of the Central Processing Platform (CPP) within approximately 1 year, which includes activating production facilities, installation of production support facilities, including FSO.

SKK Migas – PEB has closely supervised the reactivation activities of the area, starting from the production facility procurement process of production facilities to ensure compliance with regulation, to coordinating with local authorities to support the smoothness of the project. In addition, PEB has made breakthroughs plans to increase production from the Camar area by initiating a series of FEED studies and procurement stages for project facility components for the reactivation of other platforms, namely the MPA (Monopod Platform), which is expected to be completed in the third quarter of this year.

SKK Migas – PEB is actively involved in discussions and preparations for the reactivation of the MPA platform, which will activate old wells such as CM-1 and MPA-1 as well as drilling wells CW-1 and CW-2 at the MPA location, planned to be carried out in Q4 of 2024, and also drilling CS-5 and CS-6 wells in the CPP location in 2025.

With the planned activities to be carried out, the estimated production volume of the Camar area could reach 3.000 BOPD in 2025, thus the production from this area is expected to contribute to enhancing Indonesia’s energy resilience.

Head of Program and Communication Division of SKK Migas, Hudi D. Suryodipuro, stated that SKK Migas encourages PEB to take various steps and efforts to ensure that what has been planned can be implemented according to the designated time. “The current progress is not separate from SKK Migas’ efforts to accelerate the reactivation of the Camar area since the government awarded this asset in December 2022. One of these accelerations is the transfer of SPM (Single Point Mooring) assets from Pertamina. "We appreciate PEB’s strong commitment to execute the existing program so that the Camar area can resume the production,” said Hudi. “We also encourage PEB to be more active in implementing programs to increase production and conducting exploration programs so that the oil and gas potential in the working area can be optimized to support national energy resilience,” Hudi added.

Meanwhile, the CEO of Prima Energi Bawean, Pieters Utomo, emphasized that PEB will continue to coordinate and synergize collectively in carrying out the series of Camar area reactivation and development. “We express our appreciation to SKK Migas who continuously accompany this project, hopefully the smoothness and success of this project can provide a positive contribution to the country, especially to the upstream oil and gas industry in Indonesia,” he added.

In terms of exploration, PEB also remains committed to developing the Tuban area, which is still within the Bawean working area in the south, where a seismic 3D survey activity covering an area of 300 km² is planned, and it is expected that this area has the potential to discover resources of 622 MMBOE oil in place.
